Art in our heARTs – an Art-a-Thon for Half the Sky

Art in our heARTs – an Art-a-Thon for Half the Sky Art is at the heart of our programs because it gives young children so many opportunities for self expression and creativity. Now Half the Sky supporters
(ages 1-99) can be creative too! Our Children’s Day Art-a-Thon offers the perfect opportunity for you to create original artwork and raise money for a “Somebody Loves Me” sponsorship or a general donation to Half the Sky.

Art in our heARTs – an Art-a-Thon for Half the Sky It’s time to pull out your pastels, crayons & finger paints. Create an original piece of artwork around the theme, “Playing Together.” Ask everyone you know to sponsor your artistic efforts and …... raise money to sponsor a child in China!

This year’s theme is “Playing Together,” so get the whole family involved. Absolutely no art experience is necessary or expected. Just follow these 3 easy steps:

Art in our heARTs – an Art-a-Thon for Half the Sky

Step 1: Gather your kids, cousins, or Grandma, and create your masterpiece!

Step 2: Set up your personal Online Donations page and ask friends and family to sponsor your artistic efforts with donations to Half the Sky.

Step 3: Collect all your donations and submit a digital photograph of your artwork to artwork@halfthesky.org before August 31, and know that you’ve made a difference in a small child’s life.

Fund Raising Goals and Prizes: Every donation – large or small – helps give children living in Chinese institutions the chance for a better life. Here’s how your Art-a-Thon contribution can make a difference::

HTS Keychain

If you raise $300: You can share a “Somebody Loves Me” sponsorship for a Baby Sister (infant) or Little Sister (preschooler) for one year, and receive a sponsorship certificate, periodic photos and progress reports about your child along with a Half the Sky keychain. As a “Somebody Loves Me” shared-sponsor, you become one of two sponsors of the child you are assigned. With your sponsorship gift, the children will receive a special gift too—a meaningful token of recognition that somebody loves them.

HTS Cap

If you raise $600: You can become an exclusive “Somebody Loves Me” sponsor for a Baby Sister (infant) or Little Sister (preschooler) for one year, and receive a sponsorship certificate, periodic photos and your child’s progress report along with a Half the Sky cap. Be the sole sponsor to provide nurturing care and education for a Baby Sister or Little Sister. And with your sponsorship gift, the children will receive a special gift too—a meaningful token of recognition that somebody loves them.

HTS Poster

If you raise $900: You can become a Youth sponsor, and receive a sponsorship certificate, periodic bilingual newsletter prepared by the children themselves, as well as a Half the Sky poster created by Russian artist, Valerie Sokolova. Your gift goes into a pool of funds to provide music, art, language, vocational training or even university tuition for an older orphaned child.

original artwork

If you raise $2000: You can provide a year’s art supplies for all the preschoolers in one of our centers, and receive a sponsorship certificate along with a very special, one-of-a-kind original artwork piece from one of the children in our centers in China. Your gift of an Art Supplies Package will keep an entire HTS preschool full of little fingers and minds creatively busy for an entire year.

Mei Mei Book

If you raise $3000: You can provide support for one permanent loving family for 4-6 special needs children and receive a sponsorship certificate, periodic reports about the children’s progress, a Mei Mei book (beautiful portraits of Little Sisters) and also a very special, one-of-a-kind original artwork piece from one of the children in our centers in China. The sponsorship pays for a stipend for either the mom or the dad, who must be a full-time parent, ongoing parenting classes, home maintenance, and a special fund for each of the children to cover school clothes, parties, special outings and gifts.

Our 2010 Art-a-Thon goal is to to identify 150 new “Somebody Loves Me” child sponsorships. All donations are tax deductible and receipts will be provided to all participants and sponsors.
