In order to fulfill the promise of the Rainbow Program, Half the Sky has stationed Child Development Experts all over the country. Our Child Development Experts, who provide mentoring and training, are carefully selected from our most experienced and skilled senior staff. Collectively, they have decades of experience providing loving, family-style care for institutionalized children.
In addition to their proven ability to upgrade the quality of care at the 53 institutions where Half the Sky has established Children's Centers, our Child Development Experts are also chosen for their inspirational teaching skills.
Working hand in hand with government teams in the provinces where they work, our Child Development Experts use those skills to conduct trainings that motivate caregivers and administrators to recognize the potential of each child and to develop the skills and confidence to create Half the Sky-inspired programs at their institutions.
Judging by the feedback from trainees in the provinces the Rainbow Program has reached, our Child Development experts' dedication to providing child-centered care is contagious:
After the training, our director always reminds the caregivers to feed the children in a sitting position instead of having them lie in bed. Communication between the children and their caregivers has increased. Caregivers are paying more attention to maintaining communication with children with eye contact, smiles language, and quick hugs even when they are busy.
I will use what I learned in the training in my daily work. I have the responsibility to take good care of these children and to build loving attachments with them. Let’s not make our neglect lead to developmental differences between orphaned children and those who are not orphans .
The trainer urged the caregivers to sketch with the children always encouraging, supporting and praising them. The classroom was soon filled with laughter. I have never seen the children so happy.
